CYCLONE RESISTANT BUILDING CONSTRUCTION Cyclones have been an inescapable situation in India, especially in the eastern states of Odisha, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh. This calls for the construction of cyclone-resistant buildings in cyclone-prone areas to avoid loss of life and property. Low-lying coast areas, river floodplains, and sea-shore areas are highly vulnerable to cyclones. Certain settlement pattern even causes "funnel effect" which results in greater damage. While it's a common belief that heavier buildings are safer, in reality, a well built and engineered house provides better safety. Ancient Civil Engineering

Jhon Smeaton (1729) is considered to be the father of civil engineering, he is the first person to coin the term civil engineering as it is said that he is the person to distinguish between military and non-military engineering. In 1747, the first institution for the teaching of civil engineering, the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussés was established in France. ∙According to Hindu mythology, the science of architecture and civil construction is known as Sthapatya-Shastra. The earliest practice of civil engineering is done in between 2000-4000BC in Egypt, The Indus Valley, and Mesopotamia it is the time humans realized the need for development and constructing a shelter instead of finding one.
